Code of Ethics


The following are the articles of the Code of Journalistic Ethics that we uphold in our professional practice:

Article 1: Indonesian journalists shall be independent, producing news that is accurate, balanced, and free from bad intentions.

Article 2: Indonesian journalists shall employ professional methods in performing their journalistic duties.

Article 3: Indonesian journalists shall always verify information, report in a balanced manner, not mix facts with judgmental opinions, and apply the principle of the presumption of innocence.

Article 4: Indonesian journalists shall not produce false, defamatory, sadistic, or obscene news.

Article 5: Indonesian journalists shall not mention or broadcast the identities of victims of sexual crimes, nor shall they mention the identities of children involved in criminal acts.

Article 6: Indonesian journalists shall not misuse their profession and shall not accept bribes.

Article 7: Indonesian journalists have the right to refuse to disclose the identity or whereabouts of sources who wish to remain anonymous, and shall respect embargoes, background information, and off-the-record agreements.

Article 8: Indonesian journalists shall not write or broadcast news based on prejudice or discrimination against individuals based on differences in ethnicity, race, skin color, religion, gender, or language, and shall not degrade the dignity of the weak, the poor, the sick, or those with mental or physical disabilities.

Article 9: Indonesian journalists shall respect the right of sources to their private lives, except in matters of public interest.

Article 10: Indonesian journalists shall immediately retract, rectify, and correct erroneous or inaccurate news, accompanied by an apology to readers, listeners, or viewers.

Article 11: Indonesian journalists shall facilitate the right of reply and the right of correction in a proportional manner.
